TANT Development

TANT membership continues  to grow apace. New local  associations have been formed in recent months at Studland in Dorset and Sherborne in Gloucestershire. As always these come about where there  is  perceived dissatisfaction with the Trust's treatment of their Tenant-Custodians.

The institution of the new Housing Policy, outstanding repairs, poor communication and  incorrect rent statements are often the current causes of such problems.

Once a local association is formed and there is suitable dialogue, with formal  communication channels between Tenant-Custodians and the Trust, the issues are usually resolved. The guideline is support for which you should approach your local association or if you do not have one contact Peter Bate. We will help you set up a local association for your area.

Some tenants do not live in villages or are not in defined  National Trust estates. Here TANT, the national body will help you directly with any guidance you need and it is of course the umbrella under which the local associations operate.

A Tenants Handbook  has now been issued by the Trust in most areas. This should clarify the rights and responsibilites of Tenant-Custodians in clear language and will refer to Tenant-Custodians as customers. We hope this will help everyone enjoy their homes .

All Committee members are volunteers - we need more help in all areas so if you feel you would like to be involved please use the contact list on the web site to get in touch with us.

The cost of affordable housing has risen beyond all reason.  We wouldn't accept it with anything else, so why accept it with housing?  If unaffordable housing has affected you, we would be interested to hear your story, so please visit www.Shelter.org.uk and share your thoughts on our comments page.
